The full Brönte

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brönte all appear in ‘Underdog: The Other Other Brönte’ at Northern Stage this June, with sibling rivalry pushed very much to the fore.

Sarah Gordon’s latest looks to be enormous fun, an irreverent retelling of the life and legend of the Bröntes in a piece that comes with the guarantee: This is not a story about well-behaved women. A National Theatre and Northern Stage production, and directed by Northern Stage’s Artistic Director Natalie Ibu (who scored a big hit with ‘The White Card’), ‘Underdog: The Other Other Bronte’ has a stellar cast headed up by Gemma Whelan, a luminous presence in everything from ‘Game of Thrones’ to ‘Upstart Crow’. She will be appearing with Adele James and Rhiannon Clements among others. Expect power dynamics to be pushed to the fore as the trio’s fame begins to rise. RM
