The Don

Sound the ‘Extra Special Event’ klaxon as the legendary Don Letts comes to North Shields along with Dexys Midnight Runners founding member Pete Williams and music journalist Nige Tassell.

Don Letts has an unrivalled reputation when it comes to DJing and filmmaking, particular as regards to music subcultures. He rose to fame in the late 1970s, helping turning punks on to the sound of reggae, and his first film ‘The Punk Rock Movie’, captured the rawness of the scene in all its glory. At this event he will be in conversation and also playing a full DJ set. There will also be a screening of his wonderful 2017 film ‘Two Sevens Clash: Dread Meets Punk Rockers’, which looks at the myth and reality of the ‘punky-reggae party’. Joining in the chat about subcultures will be Pete Williams, founding member of Dexys Midnight Runners and pivotal force in their recent resurgence, and Nige Tessell whose most recent book is the highly acclaimed ‘Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids?’. Williams will also play a live set. This night, presented by the always brilliant Engine Room, promises a real feast for the mind, body and soul and should not be passed up. GM
