San Francisco Bay Area songwriter (and trumpeter) Anna Hillburg has a super voice – unflashy and never stretching for those high notes – but it’s eminently listenable, and her latest album features the kind of widescreen-alt-country-and-western pop that keeps tumbling forth with glorious melodies. Lyrically she dives into what it is to be a contemporary woman, and sonically she’s pushing forward some elaborate horn arrangements. A bracing listen full of fresh twists and turns. Love this! DP
