When Royal Blood first emerged onto the scene in 2014, I remember being taken aback by how a duo could make as much wonderful noise as a full rock band. They always kept things pretty simple, so when 2021’s ‘Typhoons’ arrived with a host of guest producers, it didn’t quite hit the same. This fourth album has gone back to their roots, recorded and produced by the duo at their home studio in Brighton, and it’s all the better for it. The anthemic choruses, thunderous drums and distorted riffs we know and love are all there, combined with some laid back tempos and lighter sounds to create a unique album that grows from their roots, yet extends beyond.
