‘Dead Club City’ is an ambitious fourth LP that packs a punch. A concept album based around a members-only city, it is full of thunderous percussion, bold guitar riffs and frontman Conor Mason’s powerful vocals. Though markedly a rock album, ‘Dead Club City’ does a little bit of genre bending, with some synth here and some electronic dance beats there. Despite being a well-worn path that many rock bands travel down, this works particularly well with their sound. The lyrics based on its fictional subject don’t hide their thematic relevance to the real world, touching on topics like politics, the internet, advertisement and the music industry. A really enjoyable and intriguing listen. LT
