Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle makes a long awaited return with this powerhouse of an album, her first since 2017. As well as her prominent social activism, one of the things the artist has been busy with is cooking - she even has her own cookbook - and one of my favourite things about this album is how she weaves food into lyrics that explore lineage, ancestry, family and friends. Her iconic voice adds immense colour to expertly crafted narratives and poetic songwriting, to a soundtrack of soul, rap and hip-hop. Created through the lens of Afro-futurism, ‘Sunday Dinner On a Monday’ is a compelling listen that is so much more than just music. LT
