Alexander O’Connor has supplied us with 11 more songs of his trademark sweet vocals and kicked back vibe. What separates ‘WHO CARES?’ from his other works is how it’s laced with rich string accompaniments, which shades his sound with a new sentimentality. Interesting textures are created when this is combined with funky baselines, lively bedroom-pop melodies and a collaboration with rapper Tyler, The Creator. O’Connor’s vocals are as delightful with ever, collaborating with songwriter Benny Sings to supply some catchy hooks and heartfelt lyrics. However, the tracks are lacking the distinctiveness of more successful releases like ‘Loving is Easy’. It’s difficult to pick out a highlight, as the songs are so similar that they all begin to blend into one. LT
