Rocket Boy is Chris Hill’s outfit. Hill grew up in Salford, and in the late 70s was in Sister Ray, a band that numbered Johnny Marr among its members. During lockdown he started writing again – with Chris McDonald, and Andy Bell from Blast Studios – and much positivity came his way, not least from the Hard Rock Hell radio station. And with little wonder. This album is a low-slung delight and heaving with the kind of rock and roll you’d hear in the back room of your favourite scuzzy pub. It’s also replete with melodies that barrel along, and those Jack Daniels dunked vocals are right on the money. DP
