Two solo shows from Chinese female artists are presented as part of NOW. Female artists have long been marginalised and left at the fringes of Chinese art historical debates and this partnership project addresses this. Artist Ma Qiusha explores the cultural gap between her own and preceding generations. Her exhibition examines themes of personal identity and collective memory, and includes two commissions. Shen Xin’s work addresses power relations, intertwining the personal and the political. Her exhibition features the Records of Rites (2014), a poetic inquiry into themes of cultural exchange and nationalism.
