Detail
Excavations of the Segedunum Roman Fort were started by the late Charles Daniels of the Department of Archaeology, Newcastle University, in 1975 in preparation for new housing. The findings were so significant that the rescue operation continued for 9 years until 1984 and it was agreed that the remains would not be built over. This new exhibition will tell the story of the excavations of the Fort and the development of the surrounding area.
