Lizzie Rowe was a fantastic, highly acclaimed North East artist who sadly died unexpectedly in December 2023. Lizzie started life as a male but as he grew older he became aware of questions around the fluidity of his gender exploring the possibilities of cross dressing and transitioning in his paintings. After studying Fine Art at Reading University in the 1970s he established himself as a powerful artist with a national reputation, winning numerous commissions and awards. This exhibition celebrates the life and works of Lizzie Rowe and charts her transition from male to female through her stunning and at times challenging works.
