Tyla’s hit ‘Water’ truly took the world by storm last summer, so this debut album has a lot to live up to. I really love how Tyla has brought the South African genre of amapiano into the mainstream, blending it with R&B and pop to create a unique sound that is both sultry and playful. Her vocals are tailor-made for this mix of sound - she can belt a chorus, but can also effortlessly employ a softness and flavour that brings colour to her sensual lyrics. Though perhaps lacking any songs as memorable as ‘Water’, it’s a beautiful encapsulation of Tyla’s unique sound. LT
