The Late News

Tyneside’s annual cultural crawl ‘The Late Shows’ returns in May with two nights of after-hours fun and intrigue.

Listen to them, the children of the night… Yep! It’s back! And this year over 60 venues in Newcastle and Gateshead will be going that extra yard to give punters a whole host of things to see and do when the sun begins to slink away. And among all the good stuff happening this year will be a bunch of new artist commissions that have been inspired by location – be that environment, heritage or archives and collections. These will include digital artists Multiminded with illustrator Deborah Snell using projection mapping to animate the Grainger Market (just what does happen in those hallowed alleyways when everyone has gone home…). Multimedia artist Emma Tominey is presenting an AR Trail through the Common Room (bringing existing artworks alive), while at Blackfriars, Dearest Haley will bring the history of this 13th century building to life with micro poems, performers, writers and composers. Artist Theresa Poulton, meanwhile, celebrates the African American choreographer and activist Pearl Primus with a large-scale installation at Dance City. You can grab the full list of all the amazing stuff happening at this annual cultural crawl from the website, below.
