IDLES - TANGK

Though IDLES have built their following on anti-establishment, anthemic rage, album no.5  introduces a melodic nuance to their sound. TANGK presents IDLES through a soft focus lens: the lyrical subject matter is lighter, singing dominates over chanting, tempos are relaxed and the usual thunderous barrage of instrumentation feels a little more sunny. As a long time fan of the band, I think it’s a real treat to experience their unexplored musical territories, but return-to-form songs such as ‘Gift Horse’ and ‘Hall & Oates’ prove that the band still value the angrier roots that enabled them to blossom to success. Looking forward to seeing them perform these new tracks at their O2 City Hall gig in November. LT
