What an absolute melt!

Central to Seb Trend’s new exhibition is a series of ‘melted photographs’, and you can see just why they’re so visually stunning at the NGCA in Sunderland.

Seb Trend is intrigued by states that can be viewed as ‘in-between’, whether between molten and solid, or between representation and abstraction, or between permanence and momentary. To that end, he has produced this series of ‘melted photographs’, which play such an important role in his show. He liquefies and manipulates images, moving photographic emulsion around like paint. They’re then produced by meticulously applying paints and chemicals to the surface, changing both the physical make up and narrative reading of the photographs. This exhibition marks the first time they’ve been shown together as a solo show.
