Meet the maker

‘In the Making’ surveys 50 years of work by acclaimed artist Jacqueline Poncelet. See it at Mima in Middlesbrough.

I love an artist with a restless nature, someone who doesn’t feel compelled to work in one medium or one style. One such artist is Jacqueline Poncelet. She trained in ceramics and worked with clay for over ten years, before she moved into sculpture, painting and textiles. She is fascinated by how tastes and fashions play out in the ways that humans dress, decorate living spaces, shape architecture and build infrastructures. Working across diverse media, she gathers and transforms patterns found in our cityscapes and rural landscapes. ‘In The Making’ takes a thematic approach to her work and is the largest show of her work to date.
