Freya Ridings immediately caught our attention with her stirring piano ballad ‘Lost Without You’ back in 2017, so this second album from the London-based singer/songwriter was very much anticipated, and for good reason. ‘Blood Orange’ shows that you are mistaken if you think that Ridings is just another piano crooner, as the more upbeat tracks such as ‘Weekends’ and ‘Happier Alone’ are some of her best. Her unique, powerful vocals are at their best, as is her songwriting, which brings the complex spectrum of emotions within her lyrics to life. LT
