Pet Shop Boys - Lost

New music from our favourite synth-pop duo is always exciting, and their latest EP features previously unreleased tracks from their 2016 album ‘Super’. Nothing is ever going to live up to the impeccable standards they set with their early hits, but ‘Lost’ definitely shows they’ve still got it, Haunting synth melodies and a signature bounce accompany witty lyrics with themes ranging from a youthful experience of forbidden yearning to politically-charged references to Eastern Europe. Bonus track ‘Living in the past’ is particularly striking: a beautiful piano ballad that, of all things, depicts an ironic sympathy for Putin. Strangely well timed for a track recorded in 2016. Perhaps Chris Lowe can see the future from behind those glasses. LT
