This is Daughter’s first album in six years, and it retains the moody, folky sound that we know and love, yet with a more stripped-back approach. Inspired by frontwoman Elena Tonra’s long-distance relationship, the album is emotionally charged with themes of longing, connection and distance. Comeback albums have a tendency to be overproduced and overambitious, but Daughter have admirably stuck to what they know best and have let their songwriting take center stage. Listen for a chilled out vibe with gentle vocals complemented by plucked, acoustic guitar riffs and laidback drum beats. LT
