The 1975 - Being Funny in A Foreign Language

This album is strangely chilled out for a 1975 album, and while it’s interesting to hear a different sound, it just doesn’t stand out enough to match the power of their previous releases. The lyrics are preoccupied with romance - a stark contrast to the politics of their past two albums. There are a few songs, such as ‘I’m In Love With You’, ‘Happiness’ and ‘Looking For Somebody (To Love)’ that sound far too much like canned-1975 songs to earn a place among my favourites. However, I have to admit that ‘Wintering’ and ‘About You’ are two pretty great tunes, striking that balance between fresh and familiar that the rest of the album needs. LT
