Tyneside’s Pit Pony haven’t been around too long but they’ve already caught the ear of the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs and Steve Lamacq and with little wonder. The five-piece – fronted with steely aplomb by Jackie Purver on vocals – knock out abrasive indie-rock, which comes with a pleasing dollop of fuzz, and they tackle all the biggies: political concerns, motherhood, dodgy relationships and mental health. This Pony certainly packs a real kick. DP
