Manchester’s Mica Millar could be the new soul star that the UK has been looking for, especially if enough people get to hear her debut album, which is chockfull of good stuff, from the gospel stomp of ‘Preacher Man’ to the slinked up ‘More Than You Give Me’. Elsewhere she draws on classic soul and jazz vibes and nods respectively to the classic Motown girl groups of the 1960s and 1970s. Her vocals are consistently good and true throughout, and, most importantly, she’s got the tunes to go with them. DP
