Gang of Youths - angel in realtime.

The fourth album from these Australian favourites sees frontman Dave Le’aupepe opening up about the loss of his father with an achingly sincere rawness. Grief and loss undoubtedly dominate the record, but what is great about ‘angel in realtime.’ is that it doesn’t have to be 13 tracks of gloomy melancholia to explore these themes. Yes, piano ballad ‘brothers’ is markedly pensive, and ‘hand of god’ is almost hymn-like with its choir vocals, but Le’aupepe translates his emotion just as successfully into peppy indie anthems like ‘in the wake of your leave’ and ‘the angel of 8th ave’.
