Afternoon Delight

The Georgian Theatre in Stockton continues to put on some fab Sunday afternoon events, and in early December their Blues In The Bar gig comes courtesy of Elaine Palmer.

Dividing her time between the North Yorkshire Moors and Arizona, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Elaine Palmer crafts a magnetic fusion of British folk and desert-baked Americana. Her rich, emotive vocals—which frequently draws comparison to Emmylou Harris—are anchored by a bittersweet repertoire that feels both deeply intimate and wide-open. For this matinee session, Palmer is joined by the stellar Joe Wilkins, an internationally renowned guitarist best known for his long-time collaboration and co-writing with blues powerhouse Elles Bailey. Described on BBC Radio as playing guitar “like it’s straight out of a David Lynch movie”, Wilkins’ atmospheric slide work and cinematic blues riffs provide the perfect counterpoint to Palmer’s storytelling. Together, they bring a potent mix of rootsy soul, flawless melody, and top-tier musicianship to the venue’s cozy bar setting. It has all the makings of an essential, warm-hearted afternoon of live music, and if you can think of a better way to spend your Sunday afternoons, then you’re a better person than me. GM
