The artist still known as Prince

Sunderland is gearing up for a Royal Command Performance this November when the frankly stupendous Bonnie “Prince” Billy comes to The Fire Station.

Oh, man! It feels like an age since I last checked out Bonnie “Prince” Billy in a live setting, but I’m glad he’s hitting the road once more to support his ‘We Are Together Again’ album, which came out earlier this year. And what an album it is: a glowing testament to Will Oldham’s timeless artistry, brimming with the fragile beauty, wry humour, and raw vulnerability that have defined his output for over three decades. And whether stripping things back to stark, acoustic intimacy or expanding into joyous, rambling folk arrangements, he remains one of modern music’s most enigmatic and captivating live performers. His shows are communal, almost spiritual gatherings where no two setlists ever look the same, as he deftly bridges the gap between old-world gothic Americana and deeply personal confessionals. Blending fresh tracks from the new record alongside deep cuts from a sprawling catalog this promises to be a hypnotic, soul-stirring evening in the company of true folk royalty. Get your tickets early; an audience with this Prince is not to be missed. DP
