Nothing makes us happier than seeing new, independent stores pop up in the north-east, and last month saw Effie’s become the latest to set up shop Ouseburn.

Specialising in Y2k vintage (yes, the 2000s is now vintage!) Effie’s is all about bringing back that carefree, girly-pop feel that made the early 00s feel like the last great era for individuality. Expect plenty of pastels, sequin appliques and flared denim galore, all tucked away inside a head-to-toe purple shipping container that’s kitted out like your teen dream bedroom in 2002. Everything from the zebra print rug and the lit-up Hollywood-style mirror, to the ripped-out magazine pages adorning the counter, make this feel like a joyous time capsule back to the 2000s when Juicy Couture tracksuits ruled and you couldn’t possibly wear trousers without layering a mini dress over the top.
