She’s the Best’ takes on the complete spectrum of queer pop ranging from pulsing floorfillers to sensual laidback tempos, all with a surprisingly vulnerable undertone. As well as celebrating the “She’s” in Sivan’s life – the messy yet authentic women who form his support system – there is also the fleeting presence of a “He”, the love that he manifests and yearns for, but hasn’t found yet. This subtle theme of loneliness, perhaps a hint of how he feels once the party is over, highlights the multifaceted nature of the music; it is simultaneously a lot of fun, while also carrying an emotional depth.
