The Fire Station in Sunderland and The Glasshouse in Gateshead have announced a new season of live orchestral music on Wearside.

This quartet of concerts will bring live orchestral performances from Royal Northern Sinfonia to Sunderland audiences, and they’ve got a real doozy to kick the season off—Artistic Partner of The Glasshouse Maria Włoszczowska directing and performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto (11 October). The programme also includes Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll and Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 Prague. The orchestra returns on 29 November for Royal Northern Sinfonia’s Winter Tour, directed by violinist Jonathan Stone. The concert will feature music including

Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 2, and Purcell’s String Fantasias. If you’re looking for a period of calm ahead of the festive season, then look no further. Moving into next year, Royal Northern Sinfonia performs Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony alongside Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Haydn’s Symphony No. 82, The Bear (18 April), and the season will conclude with Maria Włoszczowska returning to direct and perform Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (27 June). The programme also includes music by Vivaldi, Bach and Geminiani. GM
