The Crack Magazine

Author! Author!

Forum Books continues to bring us some of the best author-led events around, and they’ve got two real crackerjacks for us this October.

As is their wont, Forum Books have some fabulous evenings lined up across sundry venues this month, but we’d particularly like to pick out a couple of real doozies. First up on Wednesday 14 October, at The Exchange in North Shields, is one of the UK’s finest thriller writers—our very own Ann Cleeves. Her new novel is ‘The Dying Light’ and it sees detective Matthew Venn called in to investigate the death of a young woman at a luxurious holiday home belonging to rising political star Paul Armstrong. As the media scrutiny ramps up, Venn uncovers a community brimming with secrets. Next up, on Tuesday 20 October at Forum Books in Corbridge, they have the inimitable Dave Haslam (pictured). His new book ‘Creative Journeys’ features “intimate conversations with artists, actors, writers and musicians” about their own artistic methods, and it includes the likes of Viv Albertine, Paddy Considine, and Jarvis Cocker. Our advice: see both! RM

An Evening With Ann Cleeves, Wednesday 14 October, The Exchange, North Shields, 7pm, £25—includes first edition of ‘The Dying Light’ (RRP £22), additional tickets £5, theexchange1856.com; Dave Haslam, Tuesday 20 October, Forum Books, Corbridge, 7pm, £7 or £22 with copy of the book (RRP £20).
