The iconic outdoor ice rink at Life in Newcastle has all manner of special events this year, including a Skatin’ to Nashville event that I’m all rootin’-tootin’ over.

There’s a part of me that wishes the ice rink at Life was in operation all year round (because I love it), but I also delight in its reappearance each year—makes it more special. And this year, that’s happening on 7 November, which is the date I’ve now pencilled in my diary as the official start of my Christmas-related shenanigans. There are, as ever, regular skating sessions throughout the day, where you can glide around and enjoy the fresh air and twinkling lights. But throughout November, there are also special events planned that have really piqued my interest. These include the aforementioned Skatin’ to Nashville event with plenty of country sounds banging out of the speakers (Dolly!). Other events include ABBA Cold: Greatest Hits (Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!), and a night dedicated to the music of Olivia Dean. Another of the specials will celebrate Geordie icons, plus there will be two Pyjama Skates events where you skate around in your comfiest jim-jams (imagine!). All sessions and special events are booking now, so if you’d like to nail down your slot then best get your skates on. DP
