I really love the cut of this four-piece’s jib. I mean, really love it.

‘Last Dance on Broadway’ is the latest from this Newcastle band and it sees them throttling back a bit from their usual pell-mell assault for a track built around some delightfully spindly guitar work and an itchy melody that feels absolutely vital. And these fine sonics are complemented by the kind of enigmatic lyrics that I’m fully on board with (“How long is left of the show? Ah, it’s better not to know, A lifetime of valuable time, So sorely misused, I still can’t find words, That could pay justice to you.”). Of the track, the band comment: “This is the most heartfelt track we’ve released so far. It shines a spotlight on the emotional side of the band that sits behind all the usual noise and chaos.” Indeed, and ‘Last Dance on Broadway’ is also indicative of a band with several strings to their bow. Earlier this year, for instance, they released the urgent ‘Plasticine Castle’, a post-punky yelp of a song that calls to mind the angular goodness of Art Brut (this is a very good thing). If you like the cut of their jib, and I really think you will, let some Tight Collar into your life. DP
