This Teesside artist takes no prisoners on her new single ‘That Other’, and I’m absolutely here for it.

The sleeve of That Clare’s new single features a street sign for Tufton Street in Westminster, an area noted for its right-wing pressure groups, which gives an indication of the type of people she is targeting here. She’s talking about those who punch down, those who seek to divide, those who fuel hatred, those who target “the other”. That Clare—herself a trans woman—is one of those targets, but she answers back defiantly here with a track that is brimming with darkwave energy and underpinned by the kind of driving beat that made Suicide such a thrilling ride in the 1970s. A real call to arms, the single is the third release from That Clare’s fine debut album, ‘Social Konstrukt’, which came out earlier this year. A concept album of sorts, it’s a reflection of life in the UK today and fizzing with the kind of social commentary you can really get behind. DP
