The acclaimed stage production ‘New Dawn Fades: A Play About Joy Division and Manchester’ arrives in Middlesbrough this September.

Written by Brian Gorman, who also stars as the charismatic Factory Records boss Tony Wilson, the hit play charts the rise of four ordinary Manchester lads who ignited a musical revolution. Inspired by 1970s punk, Joy Division reshaped post-punk before tragedy struck with the untimely death of frontman Ian Curtis—paving the way for the band to evolve into New Order. Guided by Wilson, the narrative weaves together Manchester’s rich history alongside the iconic hits of the era. Featuring Josh Lonsdale returning as Curtis and Lauren Greenwood as Debbie Curtis, the show balances grief, humour, and raw passion. Following sell-out tours across the UK, this captivating homage offers a rare chance to step inside the world of one of Britain’s most influential bands.
