Sunderland is set for a massive dose of fuzzy, sugar-coated indie-pop when Coventry legends The Primitives take over Pop Recs for a special Sunday afternoon matinee in early October.

Best known for their explosive 1988 top-five smash ‘Crash’—an infectious, buzzing anthem that defined an entire era of alternative pop—The Primitives have lost none of their trademark spark. Fronted by the effortlessly cool Tracy Tracy and driven by guitarist Paul Court’s razor-sharp songwriting, the band have spent decades perfecting a sound that sits right at the intersection of bubblegum melody, 1960s garage rock, and fuzzed-out guitar noise. Since reforming, Tracy Tracy and co have continued to tour to packed rooms worldwide, releasing brilliant material like ‘Echoes and Rhymes’—an affectionate nod to obscure, female-fronted Sixties gems—that proves their knack for a three-minute hook remains completely unmatched. Adding to the afternoon’s charm is a stellar support slot from rising Scottish DIY jangle-pop sister duo The Cords.
