The Strokes - Reality Awaits

This seventh LP from The Strokes is unlike anything we’ve heard from them before with pretty much every track steeped in heavily autotuned vocals. It’s unclear what the band is going for with this - perhaps it’s a tongue in cheek choice to heighten the playful nature of the songwriting - but despite the album having some catchy tracks with solid guitar work and inventive instrumentation, the over-processed vocals are just utterly distracting. It’s difficult to take any of the songs seriously, which may very well be the point given that the band is no stranger to satire. Either way, I won’t be giving this one another spin anytime soon. LT
