Director: Garth Jennings

The proverbial must-see for Pulp fans, Garth Jennings’ picture is part rockumentary (if you will), and part concert movie. Frontman Jarvis Cocker’s droll narration takes us through the necessarily truncated forty-eight-year history of the band,  likening the film to a jumble sale where one must sort the interesting stuff out from the bric-a-brac. This bricolage/trash aesthetic is revisited throughout the film. The concert scenes are drawn from the band’s 2025 two-night O2 gig, part of their triumphant comeback tour, also directed by Jennings, where the band performed tracks from their last album ‘More’ along with hits and favourites. The show’s visuals are excellent and Barney Pilling’s deft editing puts the viewer in the centre of things, so catching this on a big screen with a good sound system during its brief theatrical run is highly recommended. If not, the film will be available to view on MUBI in late September.
