NEEB - Press Shot 1.jpg

Local: NEEB

This Hartlepool-based, vocal-led, jazz-soul quartet conjures up a heady brew of all manner of different influences—all of them good.

I’m of the mind that a vocal-led, jazz-soul quartet—with designs on my heart—must be in possession of a quality singer, and in Jasmine Weatherill NEEB have a real doozy. Her voice, which comes with just the right amount of slink, sits somewhere between Sade and Tracey Thorn, and that’s a very good place to be. And the band—as evinced by their debut album ‘Take To The Sky’—create the perfect backdrop for Weatherill to weave her magic. Pulling together disco, funk, acid-jazz, and buckets of soul, they take listeners on a supremely satisfying ride. Their last single ‘Feeling Tonight’ showcases the band’s 80s-tinged, sophisti-pop dance groove side, and it bodes well for their second album which is due out on Shy Bairn Records early next year. We’re promised deeper jazz cuts, more groove-laden floor-fillers, and rhythms that hit with even more Latin-flecked goodness. Can’t wait! DP
