The latest show at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle brings together a number of artists who are examining the gentle unfolding of the sunniest of all seasons.

I’ve fallen head over heels for many of the pieces currently showing at this magnificent show, not least Anupa Gardner’s ‘Quiet Reflection’ (pictured)—a harmonious river view whose subtle colours fizz together in the most glorious of ways to produce a kind of cooing sound within me. It’s simply divine. I’m also very much in love with the pieces of Emerson Mayes—an award-winning painter and printmaker based in Yorkshire. His work focuses on landscapes and life within them, and he aims to capture a direct and authentic response to his subjects. Lindy Norton, meanwhile, is a printmaker, painter, and illustrator who explores ambiguity, mystery and traces of human presence through evocative depictions of windows, hallways, stairways, and alleyways. Her work delights while it beguiles. The show itself features over ten artists exploring the summer season. Some capture the light that stretches and softens the edges of the day, while others attend to the land itself—its textures, its cycles, its atmosphere. For others still, it’s in fleeting encounters: the closeness of shared moments, the quiet gestures that mark connection. It’s a show about a coming together of perspectives, of materials, of ways of seeing.
