‘CONFESSIONS II’ is the sequel to 2005’s ‘Confessions on a Dancefloor’, one of Madonna’s most critically acclaimed projects. It’s a seamless update of the original’s noughties club music influences, drawing from cutting edge sounds from across modern house and disco. The album expands its predecessor’s celebration of dance music into a wider conversation about the dancefloor as a sacred space, the club as a community, and dance as a ritual. In an era where music is reduced to its virality and clubs are filled with people staring at their phones instead of dancing, such a message carries a lot of weight. A strong contender for my favourite of the year so far. LT
