In the Park: Wolf Alice

Exhibition Park, Newcastle

Fresh off the back of their Finsbury Park homecoming gig, Wolf Alice took to the stage at Exhibition Park in Newcastle, bringing their energy packed fan favourites from 2015 to the present day. The stage was set with their familiar silver star curtain and glitter ball, with atmospheric smoke and coloured strobes adding to the impact.

The band made a powerful start to the night by kicking things off with Bloom Baby Bloom, White Horses and Formidable Cool. These songs allowed the band to showcase their unique stage presence, while giving Ellie the chance to ease into her trademark vocal theatrics, that range from more explosive vocals to more delicate ones, with the crowd chanting the words back at her. Theo, in particular, was really channelling his inner punk and working the crowd which really added to the atmosphere. During the Finsbury Park performance, a cover of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit was unleashed on a very energetic crowd and the North East was treated to the same cover.

Wolf Alice are a brilliant band to see live. Not only do they recreate their award-winning songs with ease, but they also offer something different through moments like the seamless transition between Yuk Foo and Play The Greatest Hits. If you are ever lucky enough to get the chance to see them live, take it!
