‘Windows of Displacement’ is a highly physical and fiercely moving dance solo that is coming to ARC in Stockton in early September.

What does it mean to cross a border, and what do we carry with us when we do? These urgent questions sit at the heart of ‘Windows of Displacement’. Created and performed by Yorkshire artist Akeim Toussaint Buck, the production weaves together a rich tapestry of contemporary dance, spoken word, and expressive song. Toussaint Buck uses his own personal journey of migration from Jamaica to the UK as a creative catalyst, blowing it up to explore a much broader, macro history of human movement. The performance deftly links the historical weight of imperialism and the Transatlantic Slave Trade to modern-day geopolitical exploitation, examining how human lives become entangled in global politics. Strikingly intimate yet sweeping in scope, ‘Windows of Displacement’ is a vital, accessible, and ultimately uplifting exploration of identity and belonging.
