Summertime blues

With the summer heat nicely cooking Newcastle, the Jumpin’ Hot Club are turning up the temperature even further still this August with a high-energy Summer Blues/Reggae Special at Gosforth Civic Theatre featuring the award-winning Errol Linton.

The annual visit from the estimable Errol Linton and his band should never be passed up, and the great man is back in Gosforth this August for what should be a night to savour. Linton, a South London harmonica virtuoso, is very much the real deal and his credentials speak for themselves. He’s the soulful presence on Joe Bonamassa’s Grammy-nominated ‘Royal Tea’ album, and he also pocketed a winner’s gong for the UK Blues Challenge in 2023. And whether he’s playing a packed-out acoustic stage at Glastonbury, or hitting a storming live session for Cerys Matthews on her BBC Radio 2 Blues show, he brings that raw, authentic live energy that is utterly infectious. For this show he – and his band – will be hitting us up with his intoxicating mix of blues, boogie, reggae and more. Adding local flavour to the evening are Michael Littlefield and Scott Taylor, ensuring the night will kick off with the kind of high standard of musicianship we’ve come to expect from this talented pair. Thrills will undoubtedly ensue. GM

Errol Linton & His Band + Michael Littlefield and Scott Taylor, Friday 21 August, Gosforth Civic Theatre, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £18.50, gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk
