Forum Books always brings us the best in special, author-led events, and on the horizon they’ve got writer and chef Sabrina Ghayour (pictured) chatting about her latest book ‘Persiana One’, and Dan Jackson talking all things Newcastle United as he launches ‘Howay The Lads’.

Sabrina Ghayour can do no wrong in my eyes, certainly when it comes to Middle Eastern cooking, and her Persiana books are an absolute joy. Her latest ‘Persiana One’ details how you can conjure up irresistible flavours all in one pot, one tray, or one pan. From dips and bits that make snacking sublime, to spectacular salads, to easy everyday dinners, to something a bit more special, these are recipes designed to be simple to make without the need for loads of special kit. Dan Jackson, meanwhile, is steeped in local lore. His ‘The Northumbrians: North-East England and Its People’ is one of the best local history books I’ve ever read, and his latest ‘Howay The Lads: A People’s History of Newcastle United’ sees him exploring The Mags’ origins, and how the club has cemented itself in the hearts of so many fans in the north-east. Themes of solidarity, hard work and hedonism are woven into the narrative, alongside tales of some of the club’s most legendary players from Colin Veitch to Alan Shearer.
