MIMA in Middlesbrough is about to embrace this year’s Turner Prize, but if you hurry you’ll still be able to catch their rather fabulous ‘New Contemporaries 2026’ show.

This wide-ranging show features the work of 26 emerging and early-career artists who have been selected from right across the UK (one such artist is Timon Benson and that’s his piece ‘Compression’, pictured). Widely regarded as a launchpad for the next generation of artistic talent, the exhibition offers a snapshot of contemporary practise today. Spanning painting, sculpture, installation, photography and moving image, the show reflects the variety and quality of artistic practice across the UK – with artists exploring timely themes such as climate crisis and the future of our planet, alongside displacement, identity, and our complex relationship with technology. Hurry, hurry, hurry!
