Shah thing

One of the region’s finest singer-songwriters Nadine Shah is playing a special BBC Proms gig at The Glasshouse on Friday 24 July with support from Newcastle breakthrough act, Knats.

The BBC Proms are heading to the North East for a spectacular homecoming collision of raw indie-rock intensity and sweeping orchestral power. On Friday, July 24, 2026, South Tyneside-born singer-songwriter Nadine Shah takes over the Concourse at The Glasshouse in Gateshead for a stunning, unflinching performance alongside the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Conducted by Ellie Slorach, this special event reworks and amplifies songs from across Shah’s acclaimed catalog, including brand-new music. Orchestrated by Anna Phoebe and Charlotte Harding, the new arrangements promise to push the boundaries of her deeply spiritual, intense style. Shah’s music pulls no punches, exploring heavy themes of grief, womanhood, and addiction. Paired with a live orchestra, the performance will shift effortlessly between massive, cinematic soundscapes and stark, fragile intimacy.

Adding to the local flair, the evening kicks off with a performance from special guest Knats, a rising Newcastle jazz trio known for blending virtuosic musicianship with punk, rock, and club culture. Whether you are catching the massive grooves live in person or tuning into the live broadcast on BBC Radio 3, this is set to be an unforgettable showcase of North East talent.

Nadine Shah + Knats, Friday 24 July, The Glasshouse, Gateshead, 9pm, from £8.
