Back to the futuristic

1984 return to The Forum in Darlington once again this May with their electrifying pop show featuring massive synthesiser sounds, captivating visuals, and the amazingly versatile voice of Ed Blaney.

Ed Blaney is a Salford-born musician (and manager) widely known for his long-term collaboration with Mark E. Smith and his legendary post-punk band The Fall. Blaney also headed up Ultimate Bowie, the highly acclaimed David Bowie tribute act. Now he’s the mover and groover behind 1984, a whiz-bang show that also features Ultimate Bowie alumnae including the brilliant Joe Hope on bass guitar, bass synths and vocals, and the one and only “Duchess” on synths and vocals. And, pleased to report, their latest forays into the wonderful world of retro-futuristic sounds are full-sensory experiences that move beyond standard cover gigs. They take iconic tracks from the likes of Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, OMD, Soft Cell, The Pet Shop Boys etc, and give them the kind of tweak that’ll have you reaching for the smelling salts (in a good way). You’ll feel, you’ll move, and you’ll connect like never before. DP
