Ed O’Brien - Blue Morpho
This is the second solo album from the Radiohead guitarist and its seven songs contain a multitude of delights taking in everything from psych-folk to subtle shades of trip-hop. Moods are evoked in an instant such as on the title track, which deploys some quite sumptuous strings and a Strawberry Fields-era Beatles melody that instantly lifts you to a higher plane (the album was produced by Paul Epworth who has worked with Paul McCartney). It’s a contemplative release, but one in which any experimental areas explored are never at the expense of the melody. DP
