Celebrating history and Queer identity

If you want to say you took part in something beautiful this month, then why don’t you try the Print & Pride Workshops which are taking place in Sunderland.

The Print & Pride Workshops are a collection of art sessions created to take a deeper dive into LGBTQ+ history and everything we consider ‘Queer’ under its huge spectrum. These sessions are a reflection on those who came before us; who shaped how we view our own expression and identity; and who pushed back against societal boundaries. The workshops explore the trends in fashion and iconography that helped build our community, and helped keep it safe, and through this exploration you will then be inspired to create a scrapbook page using print and mixed media. Being messy isn’t a cause for concern – and, hey, all part of the fun – and you don’t need an artistic background to join in. And once all the pieces have been created a scrapbook style zine will be built from everyone’s ideas of identity and pride. MW

Print & Pride Workshop: Queer Identity, Friday 8 May & Monday 18 May, Port Independent Store, Sunniside, Sunderland, 6-8pm, free, eventbrite.co.uk
