From kilns to capels

Prepare for an evening of creativity, storytelling, and craftsmanship as beloved ‘Great Pottery Throw Down’ judge Keith Brymer Jones – and his partner in life and crime Marj Hogarth – take to the stage at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House.

In this brand-new show, Keith is joined by his partner – actor and designer Marj Hogarth – to share the intimate and often hilarious journey of their most ambitious project to date. Fresh from the filming of Channel 4’s ‘Our Welsh Chapel Dream’, the duo offers a behind-the-scenes look at their massive restoration of Capel Salem, a Grade II listed 19th-century chapel in North Wales. Far from a simple renovation, the project is a deep dive into resilience. Fans will hear first-hand accounts of the highs and lows of breathing life into historic stone, from navigating complex planning regulations to facing the reality of a leaking roof on a tight budget. The evening is much more than a DIY retrospective, though. It is a celebration of community and the art of making. Keith will also bring his signature passion to the stage with live pottery wheel demonstrations, while Marj discusses her lifelong commitment to sustainable craft. Together, they explore the philosophy of why we create and how the things we build end up building us in return.

Keith Brymer Jones & Marj Hogarth: Us, Pots and a Welsh Chapel, Wednesday 27 May, Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Newcastle, 7.30pm, from £33.55, tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk
