Newcastle’s Demob Happy knock out up-and-at-‘em indie-rock that thrums with intent. Tracks such as ‘No Man Left Behind’ deploy an infectious and driving motorik beat to power them to a high-plane, while ‘Somethings Gotta Give’ shows that they know how to pen a late-period Beatles-like melody to grandstanding effect. ‘Judas Beast’ is suitably raucous, but they also know how to give us Electric Light Orchestra-like crowd-pleasers (‘Who Should I Say Is Calling?). It’s an album ram-a-jam with big tunes and they should go down well when the band play The Grove in Newcastle on 9 May. DP
